Metrological traceability and measurement uncertainty: how the Quality Infrastructure responds to the need for reliable measurements, tests and calibrations.
The Table addresses the role of metrology – scientific and applied – in supporting company laboratories in performing measurements, tests and calibrations. At the centre: metrological traceability, the correct evaluation of uncertainty, calibration management, the use of reference materials and the analysis of interlaboratory comparison results. The discussion also highlights future developments in metrology (digital data and certificates) and integration with quality systems, with the aim of making the production of results, certificates and conformity assessments more robust, transparent and reliable.
Discussion topics
• Providers of metrological traceability: role of National Metrology Institutes, accredited calibration laboratories, manufacturers of reference materials/certified reference materials, performance of in-house calibrations
• Metrological traceability, measurement uncertainty and decision rules, risks of false acceptance/rejection
• Digital certificate: data models, machine readable data, cybersecurity of metrological data
• PT/ILC programmes and use of results for accreditation purposes
