Round Table - Data, AI and cybersecurity between IT and OT: what we learn from real cases and the testing of critical infrastructures

The digitalization of production systems is accelerating the convergence between IT and OT, integrating IoT devices, SCADA systems, edge/cloud platforms and artificial intelligence applications. In this context, data takes on a critical function with respect to the integrity, availability, traceability and reliability of processes.
The workshop will present four industrial cases relating to servitization, 3D computer vision for quality control, robotic inspection and rationalization of legacy SCADA infrastructures. The cases will be analyzed from an architectural, operational and cyber perspective, with particular attention to data management, integration between heterogeneous systems, asset visibility and the new dependencies introduced by digital transformation. The increase in interconnections and information flows will also be discussed in relation to the expansion of the attack surface and the need to extend cybersecurity to the entire cyber-physical architecture.
The discussion will then be extended to OT cybersecurity and IT/OT convergence within the NIS2 framework, also through a comparison with experience gained in the Energy sector. Two solutions will also be presented: an advanced Virtual RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), which enables monitoring and remote control functions, the development of new features and distributed intelligence processes; and an integrated solution for intelligent energy monitoring and management, from the edge to the centre.Introduction and curation by Matteo De Marchi, Free University of Bolzano and A&T Industrial Scientific Committee
